Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky are off the deep end when it comes to their romance.
Shortly after confirming their engagement at the 2024 Paris Olympics in July, the “Bad Romance” singer gave insight into her relationship with the tech investor—even sharing how her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, played a pivotal role in their meet-cute.
“My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband,’” Gaga revealed to Vogue in an article published Sept. 5. “And I said, ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband!’ I could never have imagined that my mom—found the most perfect person for me?”
But her mother—who first crossed paths with Michael through philanthropic endeavors—was right. And Gaga (real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) later went on to meet her fiancé at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2019, where they talked for three hours and had “the most amazing” conversation.
As she told Vogue, “The missing piece in my life was having real love.”
Meanwhile, Michael was pleasantly surprised by Gaga’s down-to-Earth demeanor.
“I was struck immediately by her warmth and openness,” he told the outlet. “She was so genuinely curious about what my life was like growing up in Minnesota.”
Although their romance was taking off just as the world was shutting down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gaga admitted that the unfortunate string of events helped take her life beyond the edge of glory, as she was hanging on every moment with Michael.
“It was really kind of special,” she gushed to Vogue. “I’d been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I got to completely focus on my relationship. I met this totally supportive, loving human being who wanted to get to know me—outside of Lady Gaga.”
For his part, Michael noted the lockdowns of 2020 to be pivotal to the foundation of the couple’s relationship.
“We had this amazing chapter of a weird kind of normalcy that’s essential for any relationship to develop in a real way—taking walks, making coffee, hanging out with the dogs, reading books together” he told Vogue, noting he loved getting to see this unique side of his fiancée during lockdown. “I think she loved the chance to slow down. She’s been operating at an unfathomable level of intensity for years and it’s no secret it had caught up to her.”
Indeed, Gaga—while noting her guilt over being so lucky while many struggled through COVID—admitted that the era only emphasized how right Michael and she were for each other.
“He’s so smart and so kind,” Gaga continued. “And his life and my life are very different. He’s a very private guy and he’s not with me for any other reason than that we are right for each other.”
Noting Michael pulled her out of a “dark place,” the 38-year-old explained, "He wasn’t afraid to truly hold my hand. And get to know me on a very deep level.”
With Michael, Gaga shared that her viewpoint on her career and life shifted to prioritize family, and what she truly wants. After all, it was her fiancé who encouraged the “Poker Face” singer to dive back into pop music. (As he told Vogue, “I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”)
As she continues in her multi-hyphenate career with her fiancé by her side, Gaga emphasized there is a simple message she wants her fans to know.
“I’m healthy,” she said. “I’m just like, so happy.”
Lady Gaga and Michael could write the best romance with their love story. Keep reading for every detail.
Following her 2019 split from boyfriend Christian Carino, Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky were spotted sharing a kiss on New Year's Day in January 2020.
Gaga made her new romance social media official in February 2020, sharing a photo of her sitting on Michael's lap at the Super Bowl on Instagram with the caption, "We had so much fun in Miami. Love to all my little monsters and fans, you're the best!"
Despite keeping a low profile since the start of their relationship, Gaga has let her love for Michael, an entrepreneur and former CEO of the San Francisco-based Parker Group, shine through over the years, sharing a photo of the two in March 2020 with the caption, "I've got a STUPID love."
The Oscar winner also called Michael "the love of my life" during an April 2020 interview with MSNBC's Morning Joe.
And in March 2021, he surprised her with a massive flower arrangement for her 35th birthday, prompting Gaga to share on Instagram, "I love you honey. I can't wait to be home with you and our dogs, that's all I need."
Also in 2021, following the February attack on her French bulldogs and dog walker Ryan Fischer, the "Born This Way" singer made a rare comment about her and Michael's life together, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "My dogs and the man that I love are my whole life."
Rumors of an engagement between Lady Gaga and Michael first started swirling in April 2024 when Gaga stepped out wearing a massive diamond ring on that finger. But at the time, the duo were keeping tight-lipped on the rumors.
Days after Gaga kicked off the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, performing Zizi Jeanmaire's "Mon Truc En Plumes" at the opening ceremonies, she finally confirmed the engagement, introducing him as her "fiancé" during a conversation with French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal July 28.
